Wai Ling graduated with a B. Social Science in Social Work from Universiti Sains Malaysia and a MA in Counseling from Universiti Malaya. She also holds a post-graduate Certificate in Training and Development as well as an Administrator and Facilitator’s License for the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) Personality Profiling Program. More recently, she graduated with a MA in Spiritual Formation and Soulcare from Talbot School of Theology, Biola University in Southern California.
She first joined Malaysian CARE as their Training officer, a Christian organization working with people with special needs. Her main role then was to develop and coordinate policies and curriculum for training for staff and volunteers, an area of interest that continued to grow and deepen over the years.
Subsequently she became the Counselor of Sunway College (which is now known as Sunway University College) a leading private educational institution and by the time she left after a decade of service, she was the Deputy Head of Student Services. Her time in Sunway allowed her to experiment, develop and establish new areas of services including a specialized professional counseling team and initiating a new career development and training service for graduating students in preparation for the marketplace. But her greatest joy was to be able to witness the fruition of an initiative that led to the partnership of Sunway with Malaysian NGO’s towards the offering of a full scholarship residential development program for students with special needs and who otherwise may not have opportunities for higher education.
Her passion is to help others make sense and discern the work of God in their lives in their spiritual journeys. One of her greatest joy in the last few years is to be involved in the ministry of spiritual direction with the Talbot and Biola community of students while in training. Prior to returning to Malaysia, she enjoyed a short stint in her appointment as a Staff Spiritual Director of the Centre for Spiritual Renewal of the Institute for Spiritual Formation. She also had the privilege of leading spiritual direction groups including a spiritual formation training called ‘The Journey’ at EV Free Fullerton, Southern California.
Wai Ling is currently the Director of the Institute for Christian Ministry (ICM) of Trinity Annual Conference (TRAC) of the Methodist Church in Malaysia. Her interest is to integrate discipleship with spiritual formation, psychology and prayer as part of helping others in their spiritual growth journey. She currently spends most of her time developing a curriculum for the start-up of ICM, facilitating retreats, lead spiritual formation sessions and gives spiritual direction. She worships with her community at Taman Ujong Methodist Church in Seremban.
For leisure, she enjoys roadtrips, connecting with people and daydreaming.
