This module is a biblical and theological introduction to Christian spiritual formation. Emphasis is on the goal and nature of spiritual formation and the process of holistic spiritual transformation. |
| SFL 102 Biblical Foundation for Christian Spirituality and Leadership |
This module will explore the dynamics and power of Scripture in spiritual formation, personal transformation and leadership. A key aspect of this course will be the understanding and development of biblical hermeneutical principles and practices that focus not only on the biblical text’s content but also on learning to listen to the Spirit in/of the text, move from informational reading to transformational reading. This course also helps students to discover and practice classic and contemporary methods of contemplative reading of Scripture and learn to engage Scripture that changes ones’ being and doing. |
| SFL 103 History, Traditions and Leaders in Christian Spirituality |
This module is a historical exploration of the nature and development of spiritual formation within the various Christian traditions and leaders from the early church to the contemporary context. The different streams of the Christian traditions by Foster will also be introduced. |
| SFL 104 Spiritual Directing, Mentoring and Spiritual Leadership |
This module will explore the art, meaning, place, models, dynamics and practice of the ministry of spiritual direction. Participants will experience being mentored by a spiritual director. Different models of mentoring and formation groups will be discussed also. |
| SFL 105 Healing and Wholeness in Christian Spirituality |
This module introduces the biblical, theological and historical foundations of human nature, the distortion and the divine healing as an aspect of God’s restoration of creation to wholeness and the call towards the ministry of reconciliation. Various models and approaches of healing ministry will be explored that touch the whole person: mind, body, emotions, spirit and social. Issues like family of origin, culture, counseling, deliverance, inner healing, medication and roles of spiritual director, pastoral counselors and mental health professionals will also be discussed. |
| SFL 106 Christian Spirituality and Leadership |
This module introduces the skills, principles, growth and development of leadership including organizational theory, styles, ethics, vision casting, personal concerns for integrity and spiritual health from the perspective of Christian spirituality. |
| SFL 107 Disciplines of the Spirit |
This module explores the nature, dynamics and exercise of classic spiritual disciplines. Emphasis will be upon the practice of various spiritual disciplines such as solitude and silence, listening and guidance, prayer and intercessions, study and meditation, repentance and confession, fasting and worship, fellowship and simplicity, service and witness. |
| SFL 108 Christian Spirituality in Everyday Life |
This module helps students to explore their understanding of spirituality within the Christian tradition and how to connect this to all aspects of their lives including their life of prayer, worship and discipline. Issues regarding spirituality in the marketplace, spirituality in family, marriage and parenting and spirituality in society as well as vocation, calling and Sabbath will be discussed. |
| SFL 109 Christian Spirituality & Leadership in Society, Politics and Nationbuilding |
This module discusses the role of the church in society and the impact spiritual leaders can have through informed understanding and wise involvement in national policies, political structures and issues. An introduction to the nation’s social history and issues of Malaysia and the role of the church in responding to it based on biblical perspectives. An exposure to the various work and ministry towards holistic transformation. |
| SFL 110 Seminars on Issues on Spiritual Formation and Leadership |
On-going seminars covering various issues on spiritual formation and leadership will be discussed. This will include areas like Children, Youth and Families – Responding to a new generation; Sexuality and Gender Issues; |
| SFL 111 Formation Retreat for Leaders |
This is a weekend retreat designed for leaders in ministry for a time of rest, reflection and rejuvenation. There will be time for silence and solitude, prayer and meditation as well as community time. Opportunities for individual spiritual direction can be arranged during the retreat. |
